Sheldon and Harper’s Room is finally complete (well, almost lol)!
We served Harper (our 6-month-old) his eviction papers from our room in May and he’s finally sharing a room with big brother Sheldon. Since the room was initially Sheldon’s, we allowed him to choose the theme for the kids’ bedroom refresh, that he’s now sharing with his younger brother. And to no surprise to us, he chose dinosaurs (what three-year-old boy wouldn’t lol).
Being the interior decorator I am, I aired on the side of caution to keep the room balanced so that there weren’t too many dinosaur elements throughout the room (as we did not want a “cheesy” looking room lol).
This was also my chance to lighten up the room, so we decided to paint the walls white from taupe grey with an evergreen color accent wall.
Sheldon’s original furniture is a graham grey color, so we also kept the grey into the color scheme, tying in the different variations of green for the dinosaur feel.
The room size is moderate for one child, but for two children, we needed to get a little creative to maximize the space, especially considering that Sheldon is now in a twin bed and Harper is in a crib bed. So, we opted for this beautiful white loft bed from Pottery Barn Kids for Sheldon which also has built-in drawers that we desperately needed.
We removed the existing ceiling fan to prevent Sheldon from having the bright idea to swing on it…. he tried it too the first chance he got! We replaced the ceiling fan with a dinosaur light fixture by Firefly Home & Kids Lighting. Sheldon LOVES the light fixture.
We decided to go with a neutral style drapery (rather than dinosaur-themed), again to keep the balance. So, when it came to ottomans, we found the perfect dinosaur ottoman that Sheldon and Avery both can’t stop riding. Unfortunately, it isn’t a storage ottoman, but esthetically it goes well with the room.
Now the wall decals are just to die for! And the custom decals from Esty never disappoint. I love monogram pieces and feel it’s important to have them throughout the room for the children, as it’s one of the first ways we taught our children how to recognize and spell their names. And it really has paid off.
Harper naturally inherited Sheldon’s original furniture which is also from Pottery Barn Kids, The Graham Collection. Because most of the furnishings came from Pottery Barn Kids, we were able to achieve cohesion in the room.
In full transparency, we changed out the area rug and drapery twice before finding the perfect look which is photographed.
Overall, we believe the kids’ bedroom refresh is a job well done, and a win-win-win. Sheldon is happy with his dinosaur room and even more excited to share the room with his little brother. Harper is getting used to his new pad. Avery loves playing with her brothers in their newly decorated room and mommy and daddy finally have their Owner’s Suite back to themselves.
